Freeway X Manansala Event!

Last Tuesday, October 18, 2011, an event was held in The Row, Glorietta 5 to honor one of the National Artists in the Philippines, Vicente Manansala.

Vicente Silva Manansala (January 22, 1910 - August 22, 1981) was a Philippine cubist painter and illustrator.

Manansala’s canvases were described as masterpieces that brought the cultures of the barrio and the city together. His Madonna of the Slums is a portrayal of a mother and child from the countryside who became urban shanty residents once in the city. In his Jeepneys, Manansala combined the elements of provincial folk culture with the congestion issues of the city.

Manansala developed transparent cubism, wherein the “delicate tones, shapes, and patterns of figure and environment are masterfully superimposed”. A fine example of Manansala using this “transparent and translucent” technique is his composition,Kalabaw (Carabao). (source)

I love Manansala’s works! He was one my favorites even during our Humanities subject in college. I just admire his works and his style a lot. And you know, it’s really nice for a clothing brand like Freeway to give have this collaboration with our National Artists because in this way, they can still let the newer generations to appreciate Philippine Arts and Culture and that is through their clothes.

Soooo, back to the event now. :) Just before the show started, there was a live painting/sketching session happening in the middle of Glorietta 5. Too bad I wasn’t able to have my own portrait because I was fashionably late. :P #feelingera

Some of the featured clothes that will be out in your favorite Freeway branches all over the metro soon!

The hosts for that night were two of the most fashionable people I know, Tim Yap and Divine Lee who were both wearing a Freeway x Manansala top. I swear they’re a good tandem when it comes to hosting because of their personality. I love them both! Like, suuuuper!

Some of the Manansala pieces.

These two are my favorites! <3

They all look so beautiful it’s so unfair! And how come that they’re so blessed with a good height? Haha! Bitterness! :P

Right after the fashion show was the ‘interview portion’ with Maritess Mendoza-Pineda, President of Friends of Manansala Foundation, Cedie Lopez-Vargas of the The Lopez Museum and Ronna Manansala, granddaughter of Vicente Manansala.

*side comment: Don’t you just love Divine’s to-die-for Kermit Teroso’s heels? Gaaah! @_@

Just like any other programs, it ended with giving of Plague of appreciation to their special visitors.

Photo op with these gorgeous people, The Tim Yap and The Divine Lee. Of course, I didn’t want to let the chance pass so kinapalan ko talaga muka ko! Haha! One epic moment: nang muntikan na akong sumumsob sa stage dahil sobrang excited akong magpapicture kay Divine. Haha! Winner! :D But in all fairness, they were so kind naman para pagbigyan kaming mga fans. <3

Had pictures with Ana Gonzales and Chuvaness, too! <3

My girlies’ sky high heels! <3

Thank you so much Ms. Hannah Reyes and Freestyle for the invite! Until next event! :)
